Luckily I got wind of these guys through Emusic, and I was really impressed! I can usually tell right away if I like a rap/hip-hop group, and the 'Scholars were no different. Solid beats, intelligent lyrics, and a great flow, that's what hooked me! Since DL'ing this, I have checked out a few of their other records, and these cats are solid! No gangsta garbage here, this is real! Check it out!
Nice to hear the intelligent hip-hop of the Blue Scholars applied to Hawaii. May not be as meaningful to people who have not spent much time here, but it's certainly not a novelty album (ep?) for them. The beats are generally sparse and laid-back. Good for kicking back anywhere you can feel a warm breeze, even if it is not Ala Moana Beach...

Nirvana and Pearl Jam. This is who you'll hear about when the topic of Seattle's music scene is brought up in a historical context. It makes sense. Alternative music has always been the face of the Seattle scene. But before Kurt and Eddie, there was Ray and Quincy and Jimi.
