not so humerous...

I've only heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams, but next month I'll download that and some others I've sampled. Why does everyone think this is a parody song? I thought was beautiful, a very serious tribute, and it works so well with a bluegrass flavor. Musicians cover each others work all the time, and it's always in their own style. Why should Cornbread Red be any different? Alison Kraus and Robert Plant covered a bunch of LZ songs, and they certainly were NOT parodys. Grow up. There's a world of music out there.

Better than it has any business being

I got this album after hearing a couple of tracks from it at a show, and was very impressed. Most of the songs work just as well, which is a testamenet to the quality of songwriting. If you've ever enjoyed a Hayseed Dixie song and a Green Day song in the past, chances are you'll enjoy this album. Worth it for Welcome To Paradise & Coming Clean alone.

Hey u nay sayers, Billie Joe would LOVE this.

EMUSIC-01AF1AB7

I've been a rabid Green Day fan since '93 and have had the pleasure of growing up along side them as they've created the soundtrack for my life. I'm fairly certain the band has heard this at some point, and more than likely ate it up with amusement and loved every note-pickin minute of it. GD has always showcased their sense of humor... hell, "Dominated Love Slave" was nothing short of bluegrass back in the day. Just because they finally decided to take the political plunge that so many punk bands have before them, doesn't erase the appreciation of hysterical irony. That said, the musicianship on this tribute, is nothing to be laughed at. The fact that these songs stand-up across genres is yet another testament to Billie Joe's songwriting skillset. True Green Day fans would embrace the spirit of this album for what it is... a cross-genre homage to one of the greatest bands of Gen X.

The Middle Schoolers have had their say...

Actually, this is really a good album. I've heard a lot of the "Pickin' On..." albums, and most ARE crap. However, the quality of musicianship on this album and the suitability of the songs to the bluegrass style set this one apart. Beyond that, you have to love the irony of a bluegrass song with the lyric "maybe I'm the faggot America, I'm not a part of the redneck agenda." If you enjoy bluegrass/newgrass, check it out. If not, you may want to go back to from whence you came.

A Tribute to Green Day's writing

hoarsefeathers

This album truly is a tribute to Green Day's writing abilities. The melodies are beautiful in any setting, which is one reason Green Day is so sucessful. That does not take away from the bluegrass style in which the songs are arranged and played here: the musicianship speaks for itself and that is something others need keep in mind. Regardless of how one feels about bluegrass and perhaps country in general one should recognize the skilled musicianship on this record. Excellent all around.

crap

A tribute is meant to honor the origional artist. I don't think this honors Green Day. These people need to stop putting out these "pickin' on...(insert artist name here)" albums. This is not the only one of these things. And they are all crap.Ok I haven't listed to every track on every album. But that's cuz I had to stop before my ears started to bleed.

OK.. so I like Green Day AND I like Bluegrass... so perhaps I'm a bit biased. But, I really like the rendering of the songs - it's kind of kitsch but weirdly cool, especially from a musical perspective. If you don't like Bluegrass and don't know Green Day, it would be kinda odd! :-)
