Gelb's volatilty meets Nesmith's cool

SelfRisinMojo

sounds like Michael Nesmith's cosmic cowboy cool mixed with a Howe Gelb- I could lose it at any minute- desert fever crunch.

accidental find

I accidentally saw these guys last night in Chattanooga. They put on an amazing live show. Each one of these guys is a master of their instrument. One part indie rock, one part alt-country, one part post punk. Very unique sound. Gun Show, Mayonnaise Brain, and Borrow Your Cape are some highlights for me.

Bionic Album

sysop

My first, but certainly NOT my last, Bobby Bare Jr. and the Young Criminals Starvation League album. Absolutely an amazingly talented band both in the studio and even more so live on stage! One of my "best of" and favorite to listen to over and over albums.

what a great record. Worth listening to over and over. Reminds me of the Band Sugarpine in the vocals particularly and a bit of Gram Parsons in a weird way. Love it

Instant Gratification

You know how there are a lot of albums you have to listen to a couple times until you actually start to like them. This ain't one of 'em! I was hooked right away. I've since downloaded all his other albums. If you want to hear something fresh - this is an artist you'll definitely want to check out. ...with song titles like "Flat Chested Girl From Maynardville" how can you go wrong?

I'm not a big fan of alt-country, even though I'll listen to Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. That being said, this album completely blew me away. The opening riff to "Heart Bionic" made me think that this country boy starting fronting the Silver Bullet Band. Throughout the entire album (that I've listened to easily a couple of dozen times since downloading it), it's just surprise after surprise. Thanks, BB. I'm a fan.

No limit to the number of times i can listen to it

I first was introduced to Bobby Bare Jr's work back in 2001, and I think this is the most enjoyable album I've heard from him. You can feel how much he enjoyed making this record and that exictment and playfulness is channeled perfected.

Not at all what you would think...

This is SO NOT the crying in your beer country of the ilk that Bare Senior did. Think more along the lines of Eddie Shaver (Billy Joe's son)... hard, rockin' drivin' music. Great sax work, too!

Great Listen

Funkyou17

First Bobby Bare, Jr. album I've downloaded. I liked Bare Sr.'s rowdier stuff and this seems like the energy channel I always wanted it to get to without any over production. Great voice, with raw feeling few can accomplish- Highly Recommended...

Rock & Roll & Pickles

Sweet, Kosher, Dill...You name it, Bobby delivers once again - Pushing his own envelope, wrapping his stunning vocals around a diverse array of new material. "The Heart Bionic" is the signature song, which is a trademark Bare Jr track. "Stop Crying" is soulful and a stunning recollection of a time we've all been though at some point. "Uh Wuh Oh" will knock you down with it's energy if you witness it performed live. "Snuggling World Championships" is a wonderful song with keyboard/guitar that satisfies the soul. "Back to Blue" another tasty bit that will strike your nerves. All you Pixie/Frank Black Fans will crack a smile when you hear Bobby crack the high notes in "Where is My Mind". The Longest Meow is a deep album. Plug this one in, put it on, shuffle/repeat and enjoy the rest of your day.

Interview: Bobby Bare, Jr.

By Peter Blackstock, Contributor

Whether or not being officially designated Bobby Bare "Junior" at birth predestined the country legend's offspring to follow his dad's path toward music, there won't be a Bobby Bare III. Junior's third child and second son, Shelby Booker Bare, was born two days before we sat down for an interview this summer before a show at the IOTA Club & Cafe in Arlington, Virginia; Shelby follows Isabella and Beckham. And yet, Junior has already recruited his… more »
