20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of Bobby “Blue” Bland collects a dozen of his definitive performances, including “I Pity the Fool,” “Stormy Monday Blues,” and “Who Will the Next Fool Be?” Within a dozen songs, the collection spans Bland’s most aching, plaintive moments, such as “I’m Too Far Gone (To Turn Around),” as well as more up-tempo fare like “That’s the Way Love Is” and “Ain’t Nothing You Can Do.” While this collection can’t compete with more complete best-ofs like Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 or The Anthology, The Millennium Collection is still a decent introduction to Bland’s powerful, influential style. – Heather Phares
