Featuring the classic title cut as well as bold fusions of jazz and funk, this final album from the great Stax instrumental combo shows them going out in style.

Dear emusic staff, ya might wanna actually listen to the album before ya slap on a genre tag. Hip-Hop this is not. Try Soul, or perhaps Funk even. Luv u guys, but, really?
The title cut alone is killer. Yes Green Onioins is their masterpiece but this comes close. Download and dig it!
This group had plenty of great songs, but just ok albums. Melting Pot is the Bomb!!! The title track alone is like WOW!!!, but there is plenty to bite off here with songs like Fuquawi, L.A. Jazz Song, and Sunny Monday. They always had soul, but on this project, they fused a whole lot of funk into it!! Too bad the group was unhappy with Stax, then on top of things, drummer Al Jackson, Jr was murdered, otherwise there is no telling what this group could have grown into!!!!!
The title cut sets up the entire album of funky grooves (or was that groovy funk?). This album is well worth your time - these are more than just jams - they are fully realized songs.
Booker T. and the M.G.'s were very good at setting up the mood for the singers they worked with. On their own, they could jam with the best of them. Solid, fun album.
The Melting Pot single is my favorite: it ticks along like a holy roller coaster. I defy you to keep your feet still while listening to it.
