Well picked, eMusic
This is the good new recording of Prokofiev's Piano Concertos, it certainly reinforces my irrational belief that while Shostakovich has the more interesting life history, Prokofiev, (who, after all, had just as much trouble with the Soviet authorities) was by far the more important and interesting composer. This is my personal view and I expect there are all sorts of perfectly good explanations for the Western musical industry's preference of Shostakovich to prove how wrong I am. So much of Shostakovich sounds to me like background music for a ballet of overweight commissars after a hearty (and boozy) meal - Prokofiev sounds different in each piece according to its needs. Anyway a splendid recording!
