The antlered helmet of Boris The Sprinkler's frontman was emblazoned with the words "Punk Geek," and the first time I saw them live, a 16 year old high school kid, I totally identified. Then when he started an insane yet amazingly polished comedic rant, my attention was further caught. Then the music started- hard, fast, Ramones-like punk rock with a tongue in cheek sensibility and unbounded energy. I was hooked. Give it a chance, and you will be, too.

The band seem to have spent more time writing catchy hooks this time around, resulting in a more enjoyable set of Ramones-inspired punk tunes. Still, Gay plays like a long joke, and while Boris the Sprinkler’s wacky sense of humor surely has its fans, the music itself often feels like a secondary concern. For your convenience, the entire album is repeated in track 15. – Andy Hinds
