Solid Effort

ambientscott

A solid effort from 4 guys who are not really MFs by any honest measure, but they are solid. The first half of the cd has quite a bit of Monk influence while the latter part approaches a 70s post bop approach that the guys who played with Miles sometimes ventured to when they put down the electric instruments. Branford dominates the space, but if anybody may become a bona fide MFer, the drummer, Faulkner, displayed some real chops that just draws your attention continually throughout the entire session. It's like Tony Williams being discovered. Maybe.

Four MF's Playin' Tunes

EMUSIC-008DDB66

This recording is damned near perfect. Branford's sound is remarkable. The band swings hard with amazing clarity and seemingly as one organism. This is also the recorded debut of wunderkind Justin Faulkner on drums. You will listen to, explore and enjoy this CD for years to come.
