An Angry Patriot

Gandalf-The-White

I won't be surprised if this song ends up being the campaign song for some clueless politician, just like when Ronald Reagan adopted "Born In The USA". If you only listen to the words that are in the title, it sounds like a positive, rabble rousing song. But just like "Born In The USA", when you listen to the entire song, it has a different, deepe, more sinisterr meaning filled with anger and frustration. It isn't unpatriotic or anti-American by any means, but it does address an uglier side of our country that too often gets swept under the rug. I am looking forward to the message carried by the rest of the album.

We Take Care Of Our Own

MichaelJay

Gads a good sounding new Bruce tune. Bruce is sounding pretty good on this. I wasn't sure what was gonna happen after his and our tragic loss. I'm really glad to hear Bruce Again, sounding fresh and back to the sound that got him where he was. If the rest of the new album sounds this good, we're all in for a real treat. Thank You Bruce, Michael

It Came From New Jersey

By Brian Raftery, eMusic Contributor

Click for Full-Sized Image In the 40 years since Bruce Springsteen signed his first record deal, the New Jersey native has established himself as the bard of the Garden State — a rep that continues with the release of Wrecking Ball, his 17th studio album. But the Boss isn't the only hungry-hearted Jersey musician who's managed to get on the map. Herewith, an annotated atlas of where a few home-state heroes got their start. Click the… more »

New This Week: The Men, Jenny Scheinman & More

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

New ones from The Men, Jenny Scheinman and more this week. Let's get to it. The Men, Open Your Heart: Here it is. People, if you only download one record today, make sure this is it. Big, loud, roaring rock & roll that ricochets between scuzzy garage, roughed-up punk and lovely, laid-back country with equal aplomb. Needless to say, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Here's eMusic's Austin L. Ray with more: The album is divided roughly into three categories: rockers… more »

Six Degrees of Blue Öyster Cult’s Agents of Fortune

By Nate Patrin, eMusic Contributor

It used to be easier to pretend that an album was its own perfectly self-contained artifact. The great records certainly feel that way. But albums are more permeable than solid, their motivations, executions and inspirations informed by, and often stolen from, their peers and forbearers. It all sounds awfully formal, but it's not. It's the very nature of music — of art, even. The Six Degrees features examine the relationships between classic records and five… more »

Bicoastal Bacchanalia: The Eagles and The East Coast

By Wayne Robins, eMusic Contributor

Hotel California, the Eagles '1976 album, has sold more than 16 million copies. But beyond its place as one of the best-selling non-greatest-hits albums ever lies its once-controversial cultural significance: It was a seriously disputed piece of evidence in one of the great culture wars of the 1970s. That battle was not between red state and blue state, liberal or conservative, anti-abortion or pro-choice. It was the culture war between New York and Los Angeles. A… more »

Icon: Bruce Springsteen

By Glenn Kenny, eMusic Contributor

If ever there was a rock 'n 'roll icon who needed no introduction, Bruce Springsteen - who got his nickname "The Boss" because, from very early on, he was the guy who made sure the band got paid - is surely that guy. As for that band, the current lineup of his longtime crew the E Street Band is Nils Lofgren on guitar, Miami Steve Van Zandt on guitar and sundries, Clarence "the Big Man"… more »
