Here's 3 and a half hours of prime jazz for around 23 cents a track. But wait, there's more: some of those tracks run 15, 20, even (in one case) almost 30 minutes. No, there's nothing groundbreaking here; no atonal experiments, nothing for the connoisseur of the avante garde to swoon over. Buck Clayton isn't expanding the boundaries of jazz. But he is having a really good time within those boundaries, laying down 19 satisfying, meaty swing arrangements played with plenty of energy. Each is a joy to listen to--especially considering that iTunes lets this one go for $19.99. One note: if you already have Clayton's "All The Cats Join In" (CBS Records) and recognize all the track names from that album on this one, fear not. Only one ("Lean Baby") appears on "All The Cats"; the rest are alt takes well worth a listen.
