Assuming the zydeco crown upon King Clifton's 1987 death, Buckwheat added a pronounced soul flair to the music's r&b roots (eventually even recording with synthesizer and full horn section). His roots as a Hammond B3 organist are evident in his keyboard accordion style. Though his freewheeling experimentation eventually led him down some dead-end roads, this jubilant 1983 effort gives eclecticism, even when applied to traditional music, a good name. "I Need Your Lovin 'Every Day" and "Jasperoux" are "in the pocket," while "In the Summertime" makes Mungo Jerry palatable. And the chopping "Zydeco Tou Pas Tou" reconfirms his way with strictly traditional sounds.
