Metropole does it again

Vivaldi55

The Metropole Orchestra just continues to churn out stellar albums featuring wonderful guest artists. Unfortunately, they can be difficult to locate here on emusic, but they are there. This one is great big band (with a few strings thrown in for some reason) jazz from start to finish. Don't pass it up.

Great album with two of the best sax players of all time. In response to BD from Providence, Alan Broadbent and Bill Mays were in the audience. Wish we could have been there too.

This does not list Mays or Broadbent. Praises the "well schooled Dutch Metropole Orchestra" Highlights Shank on flute and his solo on Someone in Love. Three stars (from four).

Something of a Mystery

BD

This is a beautiful album, apparently paring tracks by Kenton veterans Bud Shank and Bob Cooper. The two apparently do not play together, the first five cuts are Shank, the last five Cooper. Compare their seperate versions of "Speak Low." The review posted on Amazon by Scott Luster says that the album was conceived in 1993 at the North Sea Jaz Festival just before Cooper's death. Luster also identifies the backing as the Netherlands Metropole Orchestra. There is conflicting information on other web sites. I do not know how Bill Bays and Alan Broadbent enter in. Does anyone else have information of this great album?
