The Blues - practically perfect

My_Nickname

If you're a fan of the Blues it would be impossible to not like this. This is the Blues as it's meant to be play, the way it's mean to be moaned. I don't regret this download.

Absolutely wonderful

BigDaddyBacchus

I've had this record in my collection for longer than I can remember, and I don't just listen to it occasionally...I crave it. I find myself thinking about it, and I have to hear it, just like one might crave a hamburger at an old restaurant they haven't been to in years, and suddenly find themselves driving across town to indulge the memory. Buddy Guy and Junior Wells are most renowned as fixtures of the Chicago blue scene, with its driving electric sound. But here, as the title explains, they play a very familiar set of tunes, all of them classics, some penned by themselves, others considered blues standards, in a refreshing and breathtaking way. I cannot recommend this record highly enough. If you like acoustic blues, you need look no further than what these electric blues legends conjure up when the amps are off.

They Say All Music Guide

The classic pairing of Buddy Guy and Junior Wells has been captured many times on vinyl, cassette, and disc over the years, but rarely with such intimacy and subtle, restrained energy as on this wonderful collection. Buddy Guy plays mostly 12 string guitar, and Junior laces his signature lines through the songs, engaging Guy in the kind of musical dialogue that only old friends can have. This is acoustic street-corner blues at its best, performed with incredible expressiveness, ease, and joy. One gets the feeling these two are just sitting down for a friendly jam session on a Saturday afternoon, and when things get loose, their laughter flows almost as freely as the music. Guy really shines on some of these tracks, his guitar lines fast, smooth, percussive, and seemingly effortless. Wells, always tasteful, plays counterpoint to Guy in the classic style and sings with honesty and conviction. What resulted is some absolutely fantastic music. – David Lavin
