Sweet Blues

HeyStarr

Kick back, relax and let yourself get mellow as Buddy Guy plays the finest soulful blues guitar. And oh yes, his voice, to me, IS blues music.

Great sounding version of one of Buddy's best!

mr. mark

Blues Guitar great Buddy Guy regularly wins Grammys and Handys these days. Rightfully so, but check out the three recordings BG cut for the German JSP label in the 80's, when no US company could be bothered. These all sizzle! Complete with bonus cuts, and joined by his underrated brother Phil on rhythm guitar. This is the unadulterated genius who spontaniously created the psychedelic blues (concurrently with Jimi, who got the credit and the $$$). Deep, pure, and wildly original!

One of the best!

OrkyDoc

Buddy Guy is one of my favorite blues artist. I met him once back in 1992. In a small club in Baltimore called Maxx's on Broadway. He was amazing that night. He is a true bluesman a true master of his craft!

SACD Version

CrawDaddy

After seeing 2 versions of this CD on eMusic, I did a little research to find out why. The original version in 1982 had 7 tracks and was re-issued in 1995 with 10 tracks (new tracks added were #1, 9,& 10). This version is a Super Audio CD remix with 2 Bonus tracks (#11 & 12). I hope this is helpful to you. I give this CD 5+ Stars - CrawDaddy

Difficult to make better...

They Say All Music Guide

Buddy Guy’s music has changed a great deal since this album was recorded in Chicago in 1981. It is possible that Guy has never sounded better than this, tearing into some deep indigo blues, letting his guitar wail loud on every cut, and playing with inspiration, especially on the title cut and “Dedication to the Late T-Bone Walker,” a track that seems to spring from some place deep within himself. Nor was he the only one on fire at the sessions. Brother Phil Guy shares the guitar work and contributes vocals to both “Garbage Man Blues” and “Mellow Down.” The recording makes no attempt to capture a wide audience. This is Buddy Guy playing and feeling the blues, pure and simple, without any sense of compromise — and it’s all the better for it, putting much of the rest of his catalog into perspective. Rarely is the blues this heartfelt — and rarer still is it so well played. If this were his only recorded legacy, he’d still warrant the stature he’s achieved. – Chris Nickson
