Cara Dillon, Hill of Thieves

Cara Dillon's Hill of Thieves, the first album on her own label, is another wonderful set of beautiful and hushed celtic folk. Dillon's acrobatic voice is front and center here, with only some sparse guitar, piano and mandolin backing. The starkness works, though, when you have a voice as spiraling and affecting as Dillon's. Hill is buoyed by the fantastic, lilting piano ballad "Spencer the Rover."

Pure sounding...

Firies

The simplicity of pure singing is a thing of great value, one of the people I had listen to Cara's album was moved to tears and laughter all in the same listening! The instruments are kept to a minimum and the voice carries you along to get in touch with your own beauty. Thanks Cara and keep up the good work!

An outstanding voice

When I first listened to this album I came to "The verdant braes of skreen". I was stunned. And I repeated it over and over again, probably about 20 times or more. So if you love the quiet sounds this could be one for you.

Vocal Virtuousity Front and Center

I have always been a sucker for for a beautiful female voice and Cara Dillon certainly has a lovely voice. Although Hill of Thieves feels almost too tasteful and refined, the quiet power of the songs and Dillon's voice ultimately carry the day. "Spencer the Rover," "She Moved Through the Fair" and "P Stands for Paddy" have emerged as my favorite tracks on the album, but the album as a whole goes well with my evening coffee.

I hadn't heard much by Cara Dillon before, but decided to take the plunge based on some good reviews here and elsewhere and I wasn't disappointed. She has a lovely voice, and a good choice of songs too. Must be an early contender for album of 2009!

Cara is one of Ireland's finest singers and her take on trad classics like she moved through the fair are as good as you will hear download the whole album you wont be disappointed if you enjoy quality folk music
