Essential!

hitavr

Absolute essential piece of Chicago Blues. Buster is at his rockin' best (powerful singer!), and Carey blows like Hell too! I would say that these are some of the greatest performances by these artists, but also some of the very best blues recordings of the 1970's, no doubt too.

Yes, Not Carey Bell, But...

...he's part of the backing band, and he sounds great on this album. The first two tracks are traditional Chicago blues. The following songs are more in a contemporary (contemporary for the time, anyway) soul/r&b mold, showcasing Buster Benton's great vocals. A very strong 70s blues album.

Great CD, but the wrong artist!

The folks at eMusic have mislead us a little bit on this CD. Bluesbuster was NOT a Carey Bell LP originally, though Carey plays a feature role in this great band, on harp behind Buster Benton fronting his band in this 1979 release. (RIP, Carey Bell passed away in May of this year.) With Jimmy Johnson and Lafayette Leake also on board and Ronnie Scott on sax, this band can do little wrong. There's a strong sample of the Chicago blues of the late 70's here. The tracklist contains most of the songs that are found on the Ronn Records release that was generally noted as Benton's best recorded work, "Spider In My Stew". Enjoy!
