characterful and lively

Nereffid

The repertoire doesn't contain many cello concertos from the classical era. CPE Bach's were written in the early 1750s (although they may have been written for other instruments first), which makes them a little older than Haydn's and Boccherini's. They are characterful works and they get lively performances here. The soloist and orchestra are finely balanced, with the cello being part of the texture rather than in front of it.
