Carl Thomas’ aptly named debut album, Emotional, delivers smooth, romantic R&B ballads like the title track, “My Valentine,” “Come to Me,” “Special Lady,” and “Summer Rain.” Although somewhat lacking in distinction, the set features competent singing, songwriting, and production (care of Puff Daddy), and Thomas’ voice is impressive. – Heather Phares
