at the concert
I was at this concert. Charles opened for Andrew Bird. He told us this was his first concert without his band (The Wrens), and he seemed nervous as hell. Since he was solo, he created his own backing music by playing a riff, recording it, and then looping it using his pedal-controlled electronics. He would then play the lead guitar part over the loop. Needless to say, it sounded very experimental, and not very much like the full band. It was definitely interesting, though. Though he seemed a little unsure of himself and the technology, he won over the audience with his personality.
