Sure Miss the Man!
I like this period, regardless of the repetitive repertoire. Dolphy and Byard with Mingus was just one of those absolutely magical musical trips. Man, do I miss the sheer musicality and inventiveness Mingus got out of his sidemen, propelling them to the front of the stage - they just had no choice but to step up! For once I agree with the All Music Guide; this is a legitimate issue, good quality, too, which makes it a highly enjoyable listen from beginning to end. Get it! For those of you who like me have his concerts on vinyl: doesn't it beat turning over the damned Lp in the middle of a track? Or what? Especially after you've converted it to WAV!
