A country-fiddle hoedown from a modern master.
Label: KOCH Records / Entertainment One Distribution

Alcohol is a depressant, and country music won't let you forget that for long. That's why country records rarely throw a full-on party from start to stop — sooner or later, the whiskey-slurred ravers must slow down into a sodden sulk. But Charlie Daniels rips through even repentant boozers like "Drinkin 'My Baby Goodbye," and on the rare occasion when he does shift into low gear, as on "High Lonesome," he keeps the beat steady enough for a good slow dance. Usually, though, speeds and spirits are high here, so you can keep dancing whether Charlie's spouting about regional pride ("Texas," "The South's Gonna Do It), showing off his fiddle skills ("Boogie Woogie Fiddle Country Blues," "Talk to Me Fiddle") or, well, covering "Layla."

If you only D/L one thing from this, at least let it be the title track "Fiddle Fire". It is fantastic! Remakes or not they sound better than the radio versions.

Re-Recordings

alliebear21

Yeah, they are re-recordings but when you look at some of the artists, they have to be. If you people want to complain, go elsewhere. You get what you pay for and if you got this music offer free, expect them not to be the real tracks. No one is making you come here or download this music. With that said, CDB is awesome. I recommend this set.

give it a chance

At first I thought this was a waste of "free" music. My 2 teens that were searching for music was not liking it at all. I am on here the first time and have found under country music lots of tunes I listened to in the 80's. I am enjoying their free music that come with their MP3's. A review is facts only, not opinions. We all have the right to have our own opinions but when reviewing, you should only review the facts. Like my teens, they didn't find anything. I am downloading song after song. This is why we are Americans freedom of choice!

...Just like to hear themselves complain. This is an awesome album. I am not really a fan of Country Music, but the musicianship on this album is undeniable! I don't know what the deal is with some of these other reviewers. These are newly-recorded versions of some CDB songs, along with some popular covers, but it is definitely CDB. Don't be confused by the other reviews here, take the time to listen for yourself. I think you will be pleased.

The Party Dozen

By eMusic Editorial Staff, eMusic Contributor

If you're like us, you spend way more time thinking about what music you're going to play at your party than about what you're going to wear, what you're going to serve, or even how you're going to find the time to clean off the coffee table. It's just that important. Music sets the tone of a party, whether people realize it or not — it can energize people, it can chill them out, it… more »

They Say All Music Guide

Charlie Daniels displays his exceptional fiddle playing in this compilation of his best fiddle songs. From the obvious inclusions like “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” and “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” to lesser-known romps like “Texas” and “Talk to Me Fiddle,” there isn’t a bad track on the disc. Daniels delivers perhaps the definitive version of the country-bluegrass “Orange Blossom Special,” and downright rocks the log cabin with “Drinkin’ My Baby Goodbye.” An excellent collection of Tennessee mountain-inspired fiddle-sawing. – Michael B.
