painfully derivative

GiuliaGulia

Ms. Martin is talented and writes lovely melodies but unfortunately the execution just seems a bit TOO close to Kate Bush and Tori Amos. It's one thing to be influenced and reference in your work, but, this music, especially the first album is too close. This one admittedly is a bit different, but, more creativity is needed.

Holy Crap!

Satyrblade

Okay, yes - she DOES sound remarkably like her primary influences Kate Bush and Tori Amos (even covers them both on her EP "Reproductions"). Even so, Martin has an intense musicality and engaging delivery that place her far above most of her peers. This album is perhaps my favorite, but I have yet to hear anything by this woman that I haven't enjoyed.

love this

jillyt_08

this EP gives listeners a little bit of everything. she belts loud, pounds out the beats and even lays down one of the most beautiful piano tracks i have ever heard. she never ceases to amaze me. you should pick it up, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Addictive

She so unusual, I think that's cindy lauper song. Her music is so odd but in a good way. Anyway I have become a big fan, and have listen to both albums over and over.

Another emusic great

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Truly stunning voice, simple but inventive music, lyrically strong, did I mention the stunning voice? I get the references to Kate Bush & Tori Amos, but while she may flirt around the same neighbourhood, I don't feel she quite shares the same address; very much her own artist rather than a Tori wannabe.

Transition Work

I think that Charlotte's first album, "On Your Shore," is my favourite, but this one is very good. It is more inventive than her previous work, and I think it is a bit of an acquired taste. However, Charlotte's vocals are incredible. She's often compared to Tori Amos, but I find her music to be more accessible, and for me, more enjoyable. Favourite songs from this album are "Four Walls," "Bones," and a beautiful live version of "On Your Shore."

Amazing!

Give this album a chance - you will not regret it! Bones is probably my favorite, but the whole thing is great. Martin is an excellent songwriter, and the electronic elements really add something as well.
