The other reviews were right! This is an AWESOME album. I picked up Cheap Trick's In Color at Best Buy on a whim. I suddenly realized how much I missed them. Now I'm backtracking and picking up all of their older music. I took a chance on this album based on what I read, and man, am i glad i did!! Great Album!!
Rockford marks Cheap Trick's best overall album since Dream Police. After years of spotty albums, Cheap Trick puts out its most complete album in years. As the album title pays tribute to their hometown, the band returns to its bread and butter: power pop. Perfect Stranger and If It Takes a Lifetime highlight the album along with Every Night and Every Day, Dream the Night Way, and All Those Years. Cheap Trick can still rock out as in Come On Come On Come On and slow it down as with O Claire. Unfortunately, Cheap Trick has fallen out of the mainstream conscience and this album did not get the attention it so richly deserved.
Return to form for Cheap Trick....can' wait for their remake of Sgt Pepper. Download this one for sure
I saw Cheap Trick play songs from this CD at a crowded suburban festival, and I was shocked to hear how well they fit in with the older classics. I bought the CD soon after and was not disappointed. It's a great blend of all their phases: pretty songs ("If It Takes a Lifetime"), rocking songs ("Welcome to the World," ,"Come On Come On Come On," "Give It Away") and weird songs ("O Claire"). this should've been the follow up to "heaven tonight". it really could've been.
Even as a huge fan, I have to admit that since All Shook Up, CT hasn't made a consistently strong album. A few good songs and the rest filler for the last 25 years or more. But the classic songwriting and pop smarts are back and there isn't a clunker in the bunch. It starts off fantastically with Welcome to the World, which sort of reminds of me of Welcome to the Working Week, from Elvis Costello's "My Aim Is True," not in its sound but in how it sets the tone for a great record. If you've stayed away from the Trick for the past couple decades, it's time to come back.
