An excellent overview of the first seven years of one of Contemporary Christian music’s strongest singer-songwriters.
2004 | Label: Rocketown Records / The Orchard

This 2004 release is an excellent overview of the first seven years of one of Contemporary Christian music's strongest singer-songwriters. The album kicks off with the beautiful hit tune "Deep Enough to Dream,” and there really isn't a dud amongst this whole collection (which boasts five unreleased tracks). It's easy to get lost inside Rice's songs; there's a delightful specificity to his tunes, a conversational tone that belies a love of language and knack for phrase-turning. It's always devotional, and very rarely clichéd, and while it's easy to see why others want to cover him, as with most things it's best to get as close to the source as possible. On the standout track "Power of a Moment," Rice speaks directly to the Creator: "You know the number of my days/ So come paint your pictures on the canvas of my head and/ Come write Your wisdom on my heart/ Teach me the power of a moment."

Surprisingly Awesome!

I was never a fan of Chris Rice from the songs I had heard, but "Untitled Hymn", "Welcome to our World" are beautiful songs. "Cartoons" is hilarious! I guess Chris has a new fan!

Discovered this album by listening through some his songs on emusic... This is now over a year since, and I still LOVE the album and have a "personal relation" to each of the songs... WOW!!! Thank you, Chris!

Funky Music, Honest Lyrics

wlmchng

Chris Rice's music is original, funky and his lyrics are humble, personal and non-pretentious, characteristics that make it so easy to relate too. My favorites are: Smile (Just Want to Be With You), Untitled Hymn, Smellin' Coffee and Cartoons

Just a sampling

These are great. Yet still, the CD misses some of his best songs. Check them out on his other cd's on eMusic.

Carry your candle...

The songs of Chris Rice inspire me to keep my candle lit no matter how dark the world around becomes. My favorites of this album are "Smell the Color 9" - "Light Your World" - "Deep Enough To Dream."

My favorite are: "Smell the Color 9", and "Deep Enough to Dream". I went to a Chris Rice concert in a Church in White Bear Township in MN. It was a great concert. I discovered a cool, laid back artist. - Rollin
