Couple red flags on this one

scottphillips

I should have known something wasn't right just by the word Remix' in the title. No other DJ Kicks record, that I recall has that word in the title. I'm not sure what's up with this one but, the tracks are NOT mixed. I guess that why there's the nearly 35 minute mix tacked on at the end. I mean what's the point? Why not just mix the whole thing to begin with? There are some stand out tracks on this but, wth these tracks not being mixed the whole thing kind of over stays its welcome pretty quick. Part of the fun of a true mix is the seguing of the tracks.

warning: this is the REMIX version...

I didn't realize this was a different version until I went to the DJ-KICKS site and saw that the standard release has 18 tracks. This version apparently has 11 of those tracks plus a DJ set of these tracks (maybe others are included, but I'm not sure). Naturally, I was disappointed when I realized this was not the full version. That said, before I knew that, I was certainly enjoying this great collection of electro-funk gems... and still am. The DJ set is not the most seamless mix I've heard, but still a neat addition. All things considered, this album is still very much complete and enjoyable on its own.
