The songs that established go-go
His first band, Los Latinos, was sadly never recorded. But this greatest hits set, beginning with the work with his Soul Searchers band, captures the songs that established go-go. "Bustin 'Loose" — also available on eMusic as part of the similarly titled 1979 Sussex album or, uh, on Nelly's "Hot in Herre" — was go-go's first big hit. Then "We Need Some Money" brought the big labels to town. After the interest died down, he kept generations of Chocolate City fans moving with go-go-fied versions of favorite songs like Belafonte's "Day-O," the jazz standard "Misty" and current hits like R. Kelly's "Fiesta."
