Brown's 2007 record brings together the funky godfather and the soulful bluesman
2007's We're About the Business was the third essential set Chuck Brown had released since his 2001 comeback, Your Game…Live at the 9:30 Club. He had always been two different artists: the funky godfather and the soulful bluesman. Producer Chucky Thompson aimed to bring Brown's divergent interests together, while translating go-go's live quirks into a cohesive studio album. The result was the most pop-friendly go-go album yet. Each song clocks in under four minutes. Thompson wrote songs for Brown that quoted George Benson ("Block Party") and Jaco Pastorius ("Eye Candy"). The winner was "Chuck Baby," a minimal track built on go-go's signature blend of percussion, horns and a scorching female from Brown's daughter KK. Her chorus was simple and memorable — "Chuck baby don't give a (expletive)!"
