running for a reason, our cubicles in flame
My sons' favorite band - a highly melodic rock band, plus violin and cello, who made albums I adored in '07 and '08 - return with their lavishly detailed and plotted equivalent of Pet Sounds or the Soft Bulletin, which means some of you should think it's amazing. Me, I needed entry through the songs that retain a rock energy and roughness ("You'll Be Bright", "the Exploding People", "Room Full of People in Your Head", "Running with the Wolves", "Forces of the Unseen"), but have slowly learned to love the calm, uplifting, interesting, warm-hearted, and pretty essence of the album as a whole.
