A Glorious Revelation!

emusic-0242c69d

I saw Men At Work twice in the early 80's, and had always love Colin's style. Yet, this earlier work pales to what he can do today. This album has no lulls; I've played it to death. After a couple weeks, I find that I have to go back for more Colin...almost always beginning with this album. I love his more solo-acoustic oriented work (Great live show, by the way! What a funny storyteller.), with this one being the strongest of them all. Colin never disappoints. Fans of sincere, honest songwriting, if not refined from earlier renditions of certain tracks, one-of-a-kind vocals and adept guitar work will love this one. If I could only have one of Mr. Hay's albums, this would be the one...GET IT!

Amazing replayability. Talk about the comeback of the century. Or bi-decade.

Colin is awesome and an all around artist - singer, songwriter & guitar player. Just a real talent - check out his new album Are you looking at me?

Colin's solo output is a credit to his work ethic and natural talent. Being front man for Men At Work was a golden opportunity to display his gifted vocals, but outside the necessary constraints of a band Colin has shone. Looking forward to seeing him perform live in November at A Day On The Green. BTW - "Down Under" was the unofficial anthem of a yacht race (America's Cup), NOT Aussie football.

As I write this I have a copy of MAW's 'Business as Usual" framed on my wall. I saw MAW at a club in Virginia Beach a few years back. Colin's range is even better live. This man was responsible for one of the best albums of the eighties. 'Business as Usual' remains as one of the albums that defined itself on it's own terms. They created their own sound. All of the offerings here on emusic are a second look at the voice behind the music. To the poster who felt MAW would not exist if not for Aussie football, you must not have been doing much in the mid 80's.

One by One, They All Fall Down

You know what a lovely ride it is around e-music... sampling a new artist here, listening to an old artist's off-beat album there. You download a song or two. And they're real good! And you download another... and it's top-notch. And another... and it is too. Finally you give in and download 'em all. Because who wants to miss out on a GREAT album? So glad I have "Going Somewhere" now even though it took me months to download. And I look forward to Colin's new album to be released in April (hope e-music carries it).

A friend recommended him to me, thanx to e-music half an hour later I checked this album out. I admire so much what he does here. I've rarely heard someone as potent accompanied by his guitar only. But it's the richness of his voice, God he's good! Sometimes he sounds like a pakistani singer, that strength. His voice carries a lot of emotion, that's why it's so full. The lyrics are very poetic and deep. The guitar playing is oustanding. I checked beautiful life, waiting for my real life to begin and lifeline first, I love all three. Cool, lots of jewels to find ahead.

Nowhere new but nice

Colin Hay would probably still be nobody if it hadn’t been for Men At Work’s Downunder being chosen as the theme song for the Australian America’s Cup team. It’s not that he’s untalented - I think he has one of the most beautiful male voices in music today, but he isn’t a great songwriter or lyricist. But he has the voice Sting would like to have; it soars effortlessly up and down the scale, he’s able to inject a gaelic/middle eastern ‘wiggly bit’ at the end of his notes, and he has a hoarseness that can turn on and off at will, even mid-note. The album’s been re-released since one track was featured on the soundtrack to "Garden State". It is another of Colin’s collections of acoustic solo numbers, showcasing his acoustic guitar and voice. Some of his lyrics are insightful, but more often playful, downright silly, or a bit lame. But forget the lyrics and listen to his voice - you won’t hear a finer one.
