Goth Lounge 3.0

jmatty72

So as I'm producing the 3rd annual Goth Lounge show for WRIR 97.3 FM. I was having trouble finding down tempo/trip hop goth-ish music. Until I remembered Collide. They never failed me for my past shows and they definitely haven't with this album. Fantastic covers of Creep, Space Oddity and the almighty Pink Floyds Comfortably Numb. Fleetwood Mac's Tusk was a surprise as I haven't heard this in about 15 years. Highly recommend this for midnight, lights off and a bottle of whiskey listening.

A Covers Album That Works

marlinmc

Hearing the music of my youth being covered by another generation of artists always catches my attention and often leaves me with an enhanced appreciation for the original. For this reason, Collide's take on the old standards was a very pleasant surprise. They are faithful enough to the originals to lure you into lowering your defenses and then clever enough to tweak it in a way that makes the song new again or brings emphasis to an aspect of the song that you had always missed. Now that's talent! For a taste of what I mean listen to their take on "Nights In White Satin" and then jump to "Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing." These folks are not just making a homage to great songs, they are claiming them for their own. And, you know what? It works.
