Great vocals, narrow production...

Waynebo

I've been a fan of Da' T.R.U.T.H. since he dropped in 2004. On this album he sounds as good as ever. I would even say he sounds rejuvenated. His lyrics and delivery remain captivating. He stated that he was intentionally going for a "more mainstream" sound with this album. I thought that was good because on "The Big Picture" I thought he went a bit too far away from the sound that made us love him. However, I think the sound on this album is a bit too narrow. The beats aren't wack, but few of them really jump out at you. The way he kills the vocals, he really deserved something a little better production-wise. The album is still a good listen, though. The "bang factor" is there, but the music needs to sound more original and less-formulaic. I see what he was going after, but I think he may have gone a bit too far in that direction. I give it 4 stars because of the lyrics, vocal performances, and the strength of his message.
