A Sampling of Genius......

Yes, a nice representation of Dan's hits and it is a deal. But if this is your only exposure to this man who was a great vocalist, musician and songwriter you are missing out on his true genius. His albums were emotional experiences as you taken in by the rich, heartfelt lyrics of his wonderful songs. Hopefully, this album will be a jumping off point which will entice you to explore his other albums and be taken in by him as I was over thirty years ago and still to this day!

Portland, OR Reminiscent

-of school days and mirroring moods of growing up. Sad that he's not still with us, but he had authentic heart, and great contribution to '70's music, a bit more soulful than Christopher Cross. He'll get you in touch with feelings: regretful or nostalgic feelings. A bit too jazzy at times, but he represents the era so well.

Powerful and soft

daeby

Dan Fogelberg used to enjoy lots of radio airtime in the 1970's and 1980's. Most oldies radio formats don't allow him the time he deserves today. These are great works. Leader of The Band may be one of the most heartfelt love songs ever. Part of The Plan, Same Old Lang Syne, Heart Hotels, Longer, Hard To Say and Missing You showcase his soft, yet powerful side. Some others including The Language of Love and Rhythm of The Rain have more of a pop feel. The Essential Dan Fogelberg and other CDs are available and represent both a wider range and considerable overlap.

Although nine of the ten songs on Dan Fogelberg’s 1982 release Greatest Hits also show up here, this is a definite improvement on that prior disc. It has more songs (17), and extends its chronological reach all the way up to 1993. A few post-1982 chart singles are on here that weren’t on Greatest Hits, though only one of them, “The Language of Love,” was a big hit, and it could be argued that Fogelberg’s most popular and familiar material is adequately summarized by Greatest Hits anyway. – Richie Unterberger
