Danzig

Hard to find this song sometimes, but excellent. Worth the money, if you like to rock.

holds up after 23 years

This is a classic. Great songs. Needs to be listened to in its entirety. I can't imagine hearing She Rides without hearing Mother soon after. And great, drumming! A real rock drumming clinic. If you're an aspiring drummer, get this and play it to deth.

Classic

Nikolai082700

This first album as "Danzig" captured the essence of simple and dark. Although the subsequent releases had some gems, they never quite held a candle to this one, in my humble opinion. "Twist of Cain", "Am I Demon" and "She Rides" are classics. But, don't just download those. The whole thing is a dark ride through seductive, evil goodness. Download it now!

punk crossover

EMUSIC-020733BE

If you already havent heard of Glenn he is the very talented singer of the famous and incredibly influential late 70s/80s punk band called The Misfits. He has a powerful voice that carries a sort of Mississippi Delta/New Orleans twang, which complements the bluesy feel to the songs. He's an interesting and original, songwriter, most ofthe songs seeming to gloat how he is evil in one way or another, but with a sort of smirking, sexual, yet altogether tongue-in-cheek crooning. Often described as sounding very much like Elvis meets Jim Morrison. As the Misfits (as good as they were) not particularly good musicians, Glenn manages to use this line up to their full potential, for example John Christ's solos.

Shows early promise

Geezer

While not my favorite Danzig album, you can see the promise that is later fulfilled in Danzig's 2nd and 3rd albums. "Mother" is the stand out track. Four piece band is excellent. Production by Rick Rubins. And the incredible voice of Glen Danzig.

get over it.

LesbianBilly

albums are meant to be purchased and listened to in their entirety. those of you who only download individual tracks are fanboys and need to get over it. this is a classic metal album of the '80's and should be listened to as such. an album. not a song.

In response to the "Mother/Whole Album" Whining:

barton986

eMusic attempts to provide a discounted rate for music while providing a wide selection. Big record labels don't like low prices as they have lots of advertising dollars to recoup, so they don't play nice with distributors such as eMusic. This forces eMusic to do things such as not allow a single download of popular songs. Thems are the apples. I think the real mistake by eMusic was to attempt to offer music from large labels, and be forced to increase their prices. I would prefer to not have access to Danzig at all really... In regard to the album at hand, Twist of Cain and Am I Demon are also very good songs in addition to Mother, which everyone already knows.

They Say All Music Guide

Danzig debuts with a record of simple, pounding, bluesy metal featuring lead singer Glenn Danzig’s trademark Elvis-meets-Jim Morrison bellow and outlandishly dark, evil lyrics. There isn’t a great deal of musical variety or complexity here, but the band powers its way through such signature tunes as “Twist of Cain,” “Am I Demon,” and the (future) hit “Mother” with a primal energy. Plus, Danzig’s tongue-in-cheek posturing as the ultimate unholier-than-thou heavy metal frontman gives the record a definite appeal, even if one is not inclined to view his theatrics as dangerous or threatening. – Steve Huey
