maybe it's because i played this kind of free-form experimental improv for so long but it's just not an enjoyable listen anymore. When you commit yourself to this style of playing structural-randomness, the search for noises foreign to the conventional palette of the instrument becomes an aesthetic that is antithetical to the creation of listenable music. And it's also remarkably easy to do so, to my ears, it is not inspirational in the way that Nels Cline's, marc ducret's or Bill Frisell's brands of noisier improvised sounds are because here the search for experimentation sacrifices momentum and all forms of tonality, meter and melody. great for the chin scratching listen but honestly, this is music that is great fun live, and great fun to the performer but not so much to the iPod listener.
