An absolute gem...

ADRTron

I heard this album when it first came out and it changed my life. It's quirky and topical even still with alot of good things to say. This is a different side of Conor. I got into this before I did Bright Eyes and its really probably better that way. If you like, or can even stand, Conor's voice, PLEASE download this. You shan't be sorry.

Presto

the question is not Emusic when will Saddle Creek stuff be available, it is Saddle Creek, when will your stuff be available of Emusic. It is up to the labels where their music is sold, it is not for the store to choose whether or not to carry it.

An Oberst Highlight

Collins

A messy album that sounds a bit like the punk version of pavement.

Other side of Oberst

Foxymophandlemama

I wish Oberst would do more things like this. He has a pretty good "rock" voice. So much different, and my opinion better, than his Bright Eyes work.

Saddle Creek Dozen

By Adrienne Day, eMusic Contributor

In an era where big labels are bleeding money while playing internet bad cop, the story of Saddle Creek -- the little music collective that could -- is a heartwarming case of David trumping Goliath. Maybe that's because the Omaha, Nebraska-based label has always functioned as more of a family than a money-making operation, with a large cast of characters that rotate in and out of in various musical incarnations. At the center of it all… more »

They Say All Music Guide

With Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst wears his languishing heart on his sleeve, channeling his most personal emotions via intense acoustic-based indie rock. The talented young songwriter seems ready to burst out into something noisier, and he gets that chance with Desaparecidos. On Read Music/Speak Spanish, the band rocks out with more of an emo edge, typified by blaring guitars and raging vocals. With fellow Omaha guitarist/songwriter Denver Dalley, bassist Landon Hedges, keyboardist Ian McElroy, and drummer Matt Baum (Baum and McElroy have toured with Bright Eyes, while Hedges plays in labelmate the Good Life), the group critiques American materialism and consumerism. Songs such as “Greater Omaha” and “Mall of America” resonate with sincerity, while Oberst’s vocals quiver and scream about money and society. With such a convincing voice, there’s never a time when his lyrics are less than earnest. This debut full-length was recorded in one week, which, as a result, adds to its unabashed rawness. – Kenyon Hopkin
