Remarkable New Wave
I was a New Wave junkie. Athens, Georgia is my hometown (BnR) and I was there in the midst of it all...B-52s (not in town all that much), Side Effects, Pylon, Love Tractor, REM, Oh OK, and even a very young Matthew Sweet. In that environment I heard about Dirty Looks, a cool New York band. The music grabbed me, the interesting guitar hooks, and the interesting (and sometimes bizarre) lyrics. This band lived a short life, but the music they made was remarkable because it captures New Wave in all its early 80s glory. At its core, New Wave is rock stripped of 70s style horns, guitars, and other musical fluff....it is a Power Pop version of Punk and represented a clean sound....Dirty Looks embodies all of the style and music that New Wave offered.
