A Dramatic Turn of Events

marlinmc

Maybe I'm a little too new to Dream Theater but comparing Dramatic Turn to some of their earlier works this one is great in my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I thought some of the criticisms were off the mark and don't seem to want to let the band evolve. Listen to "This is the Life" and "Beneath the Surface" and tell me you are not touched. I ended up downloading the entire album and that's a rare thing for me to do. And I listen to the entire album over and over. I would certainly recommend it for anyone who is into progressive rock.

Regressive, recycled, redundant.

Dream Theater needs to get an eMusic account and do some research. Their late 90's roots are showing. The first two tracks on this record are useless. When things finally get going and Petrucci starts ripping, the buzz is killed by the lyrics, which are regurgitated tripe from bad prog of yester-year.

This is cheaper on iTunes. Why do I have an eMusic membership?

Glad to be back

I haven't listened to Dream Theater mostly since Train of Thought but I'm glad to be back with this new album. It is absolutely amazing. I think the only iffy songs are \"This is The Life\" and \"Outcry\" but the emotions brought up by this album surprised me. I felt like tearing up at the end of \"Breaking All Illusions\" and \"Beneath The Surface\".

Better than the last 3

This album is the best since train of thought. The album is very Keyboard heavy, Gives it a little bit more of a prog rock feel, as opposed to Metal, Though plenty of riffs to savor, also, The vocals are more restrained with not nearly as much high pitched screaming. James has toned it down a bit, which is also refreshing. after 3 listens, I can say it is growing on me, I am not a drum freak, so i thought mangini was fine, he does tend to stay close to home, where Portnoy is busier and more creative, But Mangini is very good.

They are STILL Dream Theater...

Without a doubt this release is exactly on par with everything else this band has done. Another fine outing, and one I seriously recommend to any fan, whether hard core or casual. The \"new guy\" on drums comes in flawlessly as well as seamlessly. Sorry Mr. Mike, looks like you might be AO.
