The onetime sideman extraordinare (Howlin'Wolf, Little Walter, Jimmy Reed) produced one of the great lost blues albums of the decade after returning to Chicago from a ten-year European exile in 1994. Campbell's guitar work alternates between concise, ringing lines and outbursts of West Side flash and fury, while his melodic vocals are full of surprise. And his writing is absolutely inspired, from playful grit like “Sister Taught Me” and “I Been Thinking” to the gospelish title track and “Son of Sons,” which both have an earthy spiritual/mystical streak that's a modern extension of early blues hoodoo.
