Why weren't Orange Juice huge?

I rediscovered Orange Juice recently and am blown away by Edwyn Collins mix of Velvet Underground and Byrds jangle and motown and soul influences. Sounds great 20 years on. If you haven't already download this. It is a great introduction to the wonderful music of Edwyn Collins.
