One of the best albums ever

dreamsmadeflesh

Firstly, I'll start by saying that this is not goth music, this is pop music. She started to dive into gothic territory with Opheliac and her later works. Thus, it is extremely different from anything else she's done. That aside, this is some of the most powerful pop music I've ever heard. She pulls influences from all kinds of music, from jazz to celtic, to bring a monumental work to us all. If you don't want to get the whole album, at least get the song \"What If.\"

Best CD I own, hands down.

I really don't know what "gothic" music is supposed to be; I was just looking around when I stumbled upon Emilie Autumn. The sample to Across The Sky intrigued me and on a whim I downloaded the whole album. I have to tell you, the first time I listened to the songs, I thought this lady had to be insane. How Strange is one of the, well, strangest songs I've heard. But as I started listening more closely the songs grew on me, and her lyrics began to sink in. This CD has to be my favorite out of every CD I own. Musically she's something I've just never heard before, something unexpected. And her lyrics are so personal that I feel like I get a glimpse of her life from them. I have to stand by this: it's a mistake to judge this album by the samples. Listen to it maybe three times through. It's amazing.

It's Closer to Sara the Siouxie

That said, that it is not a bad place to be. She has a good voice and interesting arrangements. "Medieval Idol" comes to mind if your feeling snarky but she is a little deeper than that. In style I'm thinking of a closer to an electronified, Medieval Baebes/Delrium than more Traditional "Goth" acts. She has wider range than that as this album spans a number of styles as she searches for grooves that she likes. Outstanding debut album that hints at the madness she will deliver later. I went to her website and I like the whole "Steampunk Lolita Looke", it gets my motor running but perhaps I'm just too much of an old timer to consider this album overall goth since she covers an eclectic range of styles and that is not a bad thing. At first blush it seems a good listen for the Renn Faire/vampire set. But as I listen sit here listening to "Ever" I think that would be doing her a disservice, she is a gifted chanteuse with "alternative" sensibility and worth a good listen.

Who knew music could be this good?

This is the kind of work that re-awakens a flagging musical interest. "Enchant" is probably one of the _mildest_ words I could use to describe what this album does. "Rose Red" is rapidly settling into what may turn out to be my all-time-favorite spot! Whatever your tastes, you'd have to have tinfoil ears not to love Emilie's work.

Retch-worthy

If this is the current state of "goth" music, then I'll stick to my old standbys. Barely worth the bile it induced.

I looked under the hood...

popepaul

and heard no "Goth". emusic: Edit style tag to other than "Goth", please. Emilile is rich in talent, but didn't make it to my "Goth Diva" folder...or elsewhere. All apologies Ms. Autumn, I just don't 'get it'.

Insanely worth it.........

Emilie's music never ceases to amaze me. Her songs tell unique stories derived from great litarature and yet bring Shakespere into the 21st century. This CD is a musst have!! DOWNLOAD DOWNLAOD DOWNLOAD! you will not regret it. :)

Eclectic Beauty

richard.crist

Emilie Autumn is one of those artists who define music originality. This is her music and you are invited into her private thoughts. This is by far one of the best albums I have come upon. The only other artist to which I have had the same reaction is Songs: Ohia (Jason Molina). At first Emilie Autumn's songs sound similar but they are so infused and imbued with multiple instruments, beats, voices, you name it, that I can't stop listening because every time I do I find something new. Emilie Autumn does for complexity what Songs: Ohia does for minimality, that is, present it with all her heart and soul with such conviction that you have to listen. You can't help but get entranced.

They Say All Music Guide

Emilie Autumn’s Enchant is a sprawling and mystical work of new age chamber music, trip-hop baroque, and experimental space pop. The Malibu multi-instrumentalist may be a little heady for the average rock fan, but her range is impressive, from the TLC-gone-Renaissance cut “How Strange,” to the medieval electro-pop of “Rapunzel,” and the moody, downright Elton John-esque piano ballad “Ever.” At times she sounds like “Tori Amos,” at others she’s dark and atmospheric like the Creatures. And while less genre variability would serve Autumn’s marketability quite well, this misty and boldly theatrical record should please Sarah McLachlan followers, fantasy enthusiasts, and the more adventurous members of Enya’s fan base. – Charles Spano
