March seems just about the right time of year for Eric Lau to release his debut record. New Territories 'easy, breezy songs lend themselves quite well to picnics and general lazing about. Lau takes his cues from American blunted soul producers like Jay Dee, Pete Rock and Roy Ayers, but he spreads the vocal love around to a host of English lasses with names like Tawiah, Rahel and Sariah. (Lau was born and raised in England and throughout you can also hear the influence of the uniquely British genre of broken beat rear its head.) New Territories, though, is less about where Lau is from and more about where Lau is at. It's a place apparently ready for a low-key party. How about you?
