Stunning interpretation of great music
Duparc's entire reputation is based on the few songs that survive (he was very self critical and destroyed much of his work). Felicity Lott does his music wonderful justice with her thoughtful interpretations and rich, creamy timbre that works equally well for the wonderful Chausson and Ravel orchestral songs that make up the rest of the album. This is the French equivalent of Richard Strauss' late songs - rich, autumnal music which has enormous depth. This is some of the best singing I have heard on record from Felicity Lott, and has inspired me to look further.
