I’ve lived in Kentucky all of my life and only in the past few years have I become aware of the thriving indie rock community located in Louisville. Bands like Slint, Rachel’s and Elliott were birthed in the town along with countless others. The majority of the heavily influential bands have now split but some still carry the torch of creativity in the bluegrass. Enter Foxhole and their latest release, Push/Pull. Their trademark intricate guitar work and trumpeting is still firmly in place and the Rhodes keyboard they’ve been using live makes its presence felt throughout the album, most notably on the opening track Wake Up, Get Dressed, We’re Sinking which was written in tribute to the late Aaron Marrs (four of the five songs were written in memory of Marrs). New drummer Jason Torrence (ex-Anabelle Lee) rounds out their line-up well and his production expertise also added to the strength of the new release I’m sure.
