my only reservation on getting this was jacobs' weird (at times) tempos in mozart as in his figaro and don giovanni. but this is all perfectly judged here for my taste. beautiful playing, elastic, powerful, grand, delicate, transparent but not anaemic. i love it, and what an amazing work no39 is, so many colours and characters in that andante con moto.
the freiburger baroque-players under rené jacobs go on success fully with their historical in formed, so emphatic as distictive great mozart playing. you can't do better than listen delighted to this new and superb recorded music-making by 'haromia mundi'. do not hesitate downloading.
Those familiar with the English Concert on the Archiv Label will be thrilled that here are versions of Mozart's 39th and 40th on period instruments to rival and possibly surpass that achievement. More sprightly in pace, bouyant, joyful readings in crystal sound. A fabulous production and the way Mozart should be heard in these works, not the dull leaden performances of tradition. This is classical period NOT romantic !
