Stop and imagine...

Live albums are not to everyone's taste and this may be too raw for the purists. It is however a record of a thrilling and emotional night at one of the world's great arenas with one of the world's great casts. I have been to Verona and seen and heard the opera there - it is an extraordinary experience. The performance on this disc will never be heard again for Domingo has reverted to his original and natural voice - an baritone. If you ever waned to see the man sing and missed it, go for one of the 'live' recordings for the power and sheer drama of his voice is heard best under these circumstances. Yes, it is a bit bassy at times, yes, you can hear the feet on the stage and the odd wrong note. Who cares? This is the real thing, not a 'lollipop' concert for those who want all their favourite tunes. ML is a fine work with some wonderful and beautiful music. Close your eyes, feel the heat of the dying sun radiating from the arena and experience Verona and Domingo one last time.

How a disc with sound this bad can get labeled a "Pick" is beyond me.

It's the very nature of music — of art, even. The Six Degrees features examine the relationships between classic records and five… more »
