A masterful masterpiece of masticated music

KfuMike

This seminal piece exudes an existential mood created by the juxtaposing of societal epistemological concepts of music and the sparse realities of Cage's atonal meandering chords, which are confined only by their metaphysical existence...ah, who the hell am I kidding, this sounds like a cat walking on a piano with a windchime tied to it's tail.

Lovely and strange

carfare

So many of Cage’s later sound experiments are so austere, it’s something of a surprise to hear how pretty this music is. Sure, some of the pieces (like no. 6) can be a bit thorny, but by and large they’re warm and fuzzy. The interludes are particularly lilting. This is a great performance, too—-with Cardini’s appropriately percussive attack making the prepared piano sound like some kind of beatnik, shoe-string gamelan.
