A Neglected Masterpiece!
If you love the hyper-Romantic intensity of Strauss' Metamorphosen or Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), you're gonna go ape-you-know-what for Enescu's early Octet. The music is lush and strange, euphonious yet uneasy, wild but tightly controlled. Kremer and his colleagues are zealous advocates for this score. It comes with an ethereal performance of the late Piano Quintet -- a work that's positively Fauré-like in it's elusive seductiveness. Buy it!
