Brilliant and beautiful

Is it proto-rap? Is it militant R&B? Is it brilliant? Should you download it? Answer yes to all questions.

At Lincoln Univ. I wittness Gil scott Herion tell a homecoming crowd "You may not like me tonight, but you'll be buying my records in a few weeks" thus we still love Gil and his insight to the Blackman struggles bacck in the 1970's

Long Lost Spoken Word Masterpiece

miggon

By the end of the 70s, Gil Scott-Heron had grown into a first-rate singer-songwriter. His early fans from his Flying Dutchman days revered him as a spoken word artist. They hung onto every word of his "raps" in live performances, which were spectacular with the Midnight Band back then. (Seek out their performance on SNL in its inaugural season.) Alas, here were the last spoken word recordings GSH would make in his prime. Originally a two record set, "The Mind Of ... " went out of print almost immediately. Personally, I've only held a copy in my hands once. It's that hard to find.
