Goat, World Music
2012 | Label: Rocket Recordings / The Orchard

Drawing mightily from the same retro well as the vaunted Tame Impala, Goat came out of nowhere (or, more accurately, Korpilombolo in northern Sweden) with their joyful and frequently uncategorizable World Music. Nominally Afrocentric in its approach – Fela Kuti and the glittery guitars of highlife heroes Bhundu Boys spring to mind – there’s also a distinct German kosmiche attack, leavened with some delicately psychedelic organ figures (as on “Disc Fever,” the album’s funkiest moment),… read more »

does not do them justice

saw these guys warm up for the black angels. this album gives an approximation of their sound, but they are 100 times better than this. a great psychedelic groove sound. heartily recommend seeing them live, hope their next album sounds more like what I saw live. kick ass. cool masks too.

Goat World Music

Great beats ruined by an appalling vocal, layered so thickly with "production" that it is clear they know how bad it is and are trying to make the best of it.

Such interesting, depthful music. You can drive, run, dance, or just listen to this album. I love the different beats, electronic sounds, the drums and variety of vocals. One of my favorites, it is at the top of my playlist.

World Music

A fantastic mind-melting mix of afro-beat, psychedelic guitars and funky beats. The sort of thing you could imagine that would have fitted in as part of the Ali-Frazier rumble in the jungle entertainment. Download and pass the word on.

In my top 3 of 2012.

I listened to this over and over and over again when I got it. Is in my top 3 of 2012. Hope I get a chance to see them. I am happy to see a resurgence in the popularity of psychedelic music. Although the term Neo-psychedelic is awful. Neuvo Psych sounds better.

Monstrous Afrodelic Bubble

Like nothing and everything you've heard before. And then some.  Haven't written a review for a LONG time, but after listening to World Music I just wanted everyone to go out and buy it. Imagine Black Sabbath crossed with Bhundu Boys, Can crossed with Kuti, qawalli crossed with Acid Mothers, dark funk crossd with psych, Tinariwen crossed with Psychedelic Aliens. I hear all these and more. One word: download. Two words: tell others.

Sort of like a more psychedelic world music flavored less metal Janes Addiction. Interesting.

Psychadelic Beauty

One of the great, surprising albums of the year. All the way from Sweden. These guys make great, psychadelic rock, interesting, fun, catchy. As Fatairrush says, they seem to be on their own planet. You want to see them. In the meantime, download the album. (And if you can find the amazing red vinyl LP with dye-cut cover) but that as well.

I want more! These guys seem to be on their own planet, however I'd love to know if there are similar bands out there. Fantastic stuff.
