THEY ARE ON A ROLL...

t-bear

this CD had two grammy nominations: hunting wabbits 3 and rhapsody in blue. rhapsody won, but I would have voted for hunting wabbits. this band keeps banging out excellent CDs and this is another example with the two grammp nominations. eric marienthal has another collection of great solos on this CD. check him out on YouTube playing with Jeff Lorber. this CD is highly recommended for everyone.

Keep 'em comin' Gordon!

Ivory88s

Mr Goodwin has high standards and a unique style of big band charting. Much of this stems from his solid piano and sharp saxaphone play. All I can hope is that he will continue to use the best sidemen in the business plus guest stars who add the perfect touch to his original songs and old standards. Bravo.

Love this Band!

Just saw these guys live last night at Yoshi's and was knocked out. Top notch musicians - original arrangements and ambitious goals. I think they are clearly not trying to be a nostalgia type big band playing old charts of basie - ellington - kenton etc. but are instead trying to head into some newer territory. I bought the CD at the gig (sorry emusic) and have been listening in my car. A Great Rythym section pushes the music forward - very tight on the beat and some very fast tempos. The horns and saxes play some difficult and complicated lines like it's a walk in the park. Everyone is having fun. Very optimistic, happy music. You will love this recording if you like big band Jazz.

This program begins in 1963 and looks across a wide spectrum of modern big bands… more »
